See the curve of the transom? That's not right, so you know the transom is not in good shape. It should be straight. You also can “tap” with a wrecking bar on the inside of the transom and you'll hear the dull thud in the rotted areas. It will be a real contrast from the sharp knocking sound on the solid areas of the transom.
